This classic summer drink is perfect for an afternoon relaxing by the pool. Derived from the classic vanilla iced latte, the vanilla frappé is a cool oasis and a sugary delight, all at the same time. Plus, the entire recipe takes less than a minute to make! Enjoy!
Ingredients
A short single or double espresso (depending on your taste), chilled
3 oz. cold milk
4 large scoops vanilla ice cream
Several ice cubes
Whipped cream (optional)
Toppings of choice: orange peels, a cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon, chocolate shavings, etc. (optional)
Extra(s) of choice: homemade flavoured syrup, Irish cream, crème de menthe, maple liqueur, etc. (optional)
What Espresso Should You Use?
All of the blends from our espresso line would work well for this recipe. From Cremone to Bio II, or Autentico to Decaffeinated, if you’re more sensitive to caffeine, all of our blends would complement this iced drink! If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, simply swap out the espresso in the recipe for 2 oz. of cold brew concentrate. This is also great!
Instructions
In a blender, mix the espresso, milk, ice cream and a little ice until it reaches a smooth consistency.
Pour your vanilla frappé into a nice glass of your choice.
Now, it’s your turn to have some fun! We have made some suggestions for add-ins to give your drink a little something special, or even turn it into a real cocktail, whatever you prefer. Note that any liquids (not the toppings) should be added at step 1. However, here are a couple of combinations we really like:
Irish cream with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top
Crème de menthe topped with chocolate shavings
Brandy (Cabot Trail brand) topped with maple flakes
Homemade raspberry syrup topped with cocoa
Chai tea concentrate and a cinnamon stick
You can also top your drink with whipped cream if you want. Don’t forget to decorate your vanilla frappé with a cute and colourful reusable straw! For a slightly different variation, you can choose to leave out the ice cubes from step 1 and simple pour the mixture into a glass that already has ice in it. The texture will be creamier and less slushy-like.
