When will there be coffee capsules compatible with Nespresso® Vertuo machines? Many people ask us this question, which is why we wanted to clarify things in this short blog post.
It’s important to know that Nespresso® currently holds a patent on Vertuo-compatible capsules (at least until July 21, 2029). This means that, unfortunately, it is not possible to produce them—at least for now. The patents cover not only the capsules themselves but also the extraction method, which makes it quite difficult to legally sell third-party capsules. Additionally, their production process differs from regular capsules: their unique dome shape is a defining feature.
Despite this, we remain open to the idea of producing them one day—when it becomes possible to do so! Fortunately, this situation does not affect the Nespresso® Original compatible coffee capsules we’ve offered for several years now at Barista!
For those who own a Nespresso® machine compatible with Vertuo capsules, the current solution would be to use reusable capsules and fill them with our espresso-ground coffee. You can check out our full range of espresso blends right here!
