Notre avis sur la Moccamaster KBGT - Café Barista

The main difference between the Moccamaster KBGT and the Moccamaster KBGV is the carafe. Though the Moccamaster KBGT’s carafe is made of stainless steel, both operate using the same brewing mechanism that guarantees excellent coffee for years to come! Read on to learn more about this timeless classic.

A Note on the Brand

“Life is too short to drink bad coffee”. In 1964, Gerard Smit founded Technivorm, the manufacturing place of the Moccamaster, around this philosophy. Four years later, he developed his very first machine, which is still a market leader today.

All Moccamaster coffee makers are built, assembled, and inspected by hand at the Technivorm factory in Amerongen, Netherlands. They are known for their emblematic design and especially their durability. The brand even offers a 5-year warranty on all their machines. When you choose a Moccamaster, you’re sure to get great coffee time after time.

How Does it Work?

The Moccamaster KBGT’s brewing system is specific to the machines developed at Technivorm. First, a copper heating element ensures the optimal brewing temperature (between 92° and 96° Celsius). This is considered the ideal temperature, as it helps extract all of the coffee’s aromas without burning the grounds. Once heated, the water flows through a glass tube before pouring over your grounds, replicating a pour-over effect.

Once your beverage is brewed, the Moccamaster KBGT’s stainless steel carafe keeps your coffee at 80 °C, for up to three hours, but even after eight hours the temperature remains around 50 °C. The heating element helps keep your coffee hot, without burning it.

First Use

After unpacking your new machine, it’s time to try it out! Simply:

  1. Plug it into an electrical outlet.

  2. Place a No. 4 filter in the portafilter.

  3. Add 1 teaspoon of ground coffee per 125 mL of filtered water.

  4. Fill the reservoir with filtered water.

  5. Turn the machine on to begin brewing.

  6. Enjoy the perfect cup of coffee!

Maintenance

Descaling

To keep your machine running and enjoy the best tasting coffee possible, we recommend descaling your machine at least once every three months.

  1. Add a small amount of cleaning powder to the portafilter.

  2. Turn your machine on and wait until the liquid has poured out into the pot.

  3. Repeat the process two to three times with clean water to rinse out the machine.

Cleaning

  1. Unplug your machine and let it cool.

  2. Wipe down the outside of the machine using a damp cloth.

  3. Dry the machine.

  4. Wash the portafilter and lids with dish soap and water.

  5. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

To clean the stainless-steel carafe, fill it with hot water and a bit of dish soap. After one hour, scrub it down well, then rinse out thoroughly with clean water.
