The moka pot works well enough to make a drink that is very close to an espresso. This reinvented latte is super simple to make using this antique brewing system, and you’ll be guaranteed to get compliments during your next dinner. Once you’ve mastered the basic recipe, why not jazz it up with Quebec liqueur, flavoured whipped cream or unique toppings?

Directions

  1. Brew a coffee using your moka pot. Click here for the full tutorial.

  2. Heat milk to approximately 140°C, without bringing it to a boil. Calculate approximately 100-125 mL of cold milk per person.

  3. Froth your milk using a manual frother (battery-powered frother) until you have approximately 200 mL of hot milk which is soft yet inflated.

  4. Assembly: pour the milk foam into a clear glass, leaving about 1 to 2 cm of space at the top of glass. Put a tablespoon on top of the milk so that the back of the spoon touches the milk, then, gently pour in the coffee. The separation should happen on its own in the glass.

  5. If desired, garnish with whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon or cocoa.

Other Notes

  • To froth your milk, you can use a milk frother or the steam wand on your manual espresso machine.

  • You can also use your milk of choice to make this beverage. If you go for a plant-based beverage, we recommend one that is barista quality, which will provide a much more interesting texture.
