When you choose to invest in high-quality equipment, whether for a coffee shop or for your home, it is essential to take proper care of it and to perform proper maintenance to avoid damaging it; making sure it lasts.

What You Will Need to Clean Your Machine

To properly clean an espresso machine you will need a small brush, a blind portafilter, Barista Cleaning Powder, and Rinza Milk Frother Cleaner.

Cleaning Steps

  1. Remove the portafilter from the machine you want to clean and replace the regular filter with a blind filter basket.

  2. Brush the brew group gasket with the small brush to remove coffee residue.

  3. Put 1/4 teaspoon of espresso machine cleaner in the blind filter basket.

  4. Put the portafilter with the powder onto the machine and run for 5 seconds.

  5. Rince the portafilter and repeat step 4 with the same portafilter 5 times. If you have more than one brew group, repeat steps 1 to 4 for each one.

  6. To clean the steam wands, fill a pitcher with cold water and add 1 oz. of Rinza Milk Frother Cleaner to it.

  7. Place the pitcher with the solution under your machine’s steam wand and start the steam and let it run until the solution boils.

  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for each steam wand if your machine has more than one.

  9. Soak steam wand(s) for 30 minutes in the solution.

  10. Fill a pitcher or bowl with very hot water and add 2 tablespoons of cleaning powder.

  11. Soak the portafilter in the solution for 30 minutes.

  12. Put the regular filter back into your portafilter and rinse well. Repeat steps 10 to 12 for all portafilters.
