Hario V60 Filters

Paper filters emerged at the same time as the dripper, in the early 20th century; hundreds of years after coffee was discovered. A German woman by the name of Melitta Bentz had the brilliant idea of making coffee using a paper filter inserted into a brass container with holes pierced in its base. She was a visionary and the company she founded in 1908 to produce the dripper has become a multinational powerhouse to this day.

The dripper and filter didn’t take their distinctive conical shape until the 1930s. Bentz was behind another innovation in the late 1980s as well! Inspired by the environmental movement, she developed an unbleached filter that was better for the planet. This is how the brown filters came to be.
